Mineral deficiencies have become rampant in the modern world.  Over the last 3000 years or so, many of the minerals have washed down into the sea.  Lots of people are deficient in both iodine and zinc.  Iodine is needed to make thyroid hormone and zinc is needed in order to taste properly, make stomach acid, smell, have a properly functioning hormonal system and hundreds of physiological functions.

Heavy metals such as silver and mercury found in mercury amalgam fillings are extremely toxic.  You will see the nasty effects of the mercury vapor coming off of the silver amalgam fillings.  Mercury is highly toxic —– it is not something to be played with.  Mercury poisoning can cause hallucinations and all sorts of problems.  You can also watch videos from Hal Huggins, a dentist who discusses root canals vs. implants.

Low Back Pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide according to the American Chiropractic Association and the New England Journal of Medicine’s 1994 study (1). This is a staggering statistic.  There are many reasons for back pain becoming so prevalent.  Applied Kinesiologists like myself, functional medicine diagnostic specialists,  have training that allows us to get to the underlying causes of people’s back pain.  The Applied Kinesiologist uses the Triad Of Health.  They are taught that there are 3 main causes of any health concern.  There are structural causes – such as from car or other accidents, sports, improper posture while moving or static.  There are chemical causes – such as from chemicals in the air, water, food, soil, personal care products, and other sources.  And, there are emotional causes of every health concern – such as stressful marriage, a death in the family, having a loved one pass away, or losing one’s job.  Therapies to address back pain should be holistic; addressing the structural, chemical and emotional causes of the back pain (3).

According to a Center for Disease Control’s 2016 report, greater than half of United States adults (125 million) had musculoskeletal pain disorders in 2012.  A little bit over 20% of U.S. adults had arthritic conditions (22.1%) or lower back pain (20.3%).  A smaller percentage of people reported having non-arthritic joint pains and fewer still had neck pain.  More than 40% of adults with musculoskeletal pain disorder used a complementary health approach in 2012.  41.9% of the people that used complimentary and alternative medicine did so for sciatica (2).

Hypocrites, the father of modern medicine said, “the highest good is to find the cause.”  What he meant by this is that if you do not find out what is causing the symptom then you will not be able to get rid of the symptom with any lasting result.  Of course, back pain is a symptom.  In these videos below we can learn about some of the causes and solutions to back pain.  Fortunately, we are able to hear directly from several of the people who have gone from back pain symptoms to feeling better in a very short period of time.

Here a few different chemical solutions to help with a healthy back:

Healthy Low Back:  about 90% of the time discomfort of the low back is related to a toxic colon so a great bowel detoxifier such as magnesium, a probiotic, high dose B6, or Burdock Root could be helpful.  (Follow link)

Mid Back Health: an unhealthy low back is commonly related to liver toxicity – milk thistle would be likely to help as well as N-Acetyl Cystiene.  (Follow link)  

Upper Back Discomfort and musculoskeletal dysfunction around the shoulders: this is likely to be related to toxic kidneys, taking kidney related herbs such as Uva Ursi, Cranberry or others may prove helpful.  Drinking a good quality spring water in adequate amounts would also be a great idea.  (Follow link.)

The small intestine is a pink tube-shaped organ lined with muscle. It is about 20 feet long on average (can vary from 15 to 30 feet) and about one inch in diameter. The top is connected to the stomach and the bottom is attached to the large intestine. To move food along, the intestines normally contract about a dozen times a minute. Digestion begins by chewing and breakdown in the stomach, but the majority of further digestion and nutrient absorption occurs in the small intestine where various additional enzymes that break down nutrients are introduced. Food is transformed into glucose (sugar), fatty acids (fats), amino acids (protein) and a myriad of micronutrients. All these nutrients pass through the thin walls of the intestine via nutrient absorbing projections (villi) into the bloodstream. Water-soluble nutrients (carbohydrates, amino acids, water-soluble vitamins) are absorbed by transport across brush border cells through passive and active transport systems. Fat soluble nutrients (fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K / fatty acids) must first undergo emulsification with bile and are then taken into the lymphatic system for later association with plasma proteins. For proper nutrient absorption, the intestine’s mucous membrane lining must be healthy. If not, absorptive pathways can develop defects, leading to deficiencies of nutrients. The mucosal barrier is also a defense against unwanted toxins, antigens, and sick microbes.

Malabsorption occurs when one of the many steps of digestion are disrupted. Causes, sometimes overlapping, include

  1. Food doesn’t get broken down properly. Pancreas or liver problems can diminish production of digestive enzymes or bile needed for digestion, making nutrient absorption incomplete or lacking.
  2. Excessive sick bacteria in the small intestine may interfere with digestion.
  3. Damage to the intestinal lining interferes with absorption. Certain drugs, many toxins, excessive alcohol consumption, and over processed non-foods, as well as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, other diseases, and radiation therapy for cancer, can cause damage to the lining.
  4. Some forms of obesity.
  5. Surgery that shortens the amount of the small intestine available to absorb nutrients.

Signs of malabsorption include: abdominal bloating and gas, weight loss, chronic diarrhea or loose stools, more stool volume than usual, excess fat in stools ( pale looking, extra foul smelly, bulky, greasy). Other symptoms are specific to nutrient deficiencies. In older adults, symptoms can be subtle and more difficult to recognize. Nutritional support to the lining of the small intestine, pancreas or liver and measures to reduce sick bacterial overgrowth can be provided. A quality digestive enzyme or bile salts supplement taken with meals can aid digestion and other problems such as celiac disease, lactose intolerance or leaky gut require dietary changes. Boosting nutrient intake to help make up for the deficits resulting from malabsorption and to support intestinal repair can correct or ward off serious deficiencies and resultant disorders. Unbalanced diets, typified by the highly processed low fiber Western diet, alter intestinal barrier function and promote a leaky gut and consequential problems. A healthful real food diet rich in non-digestible but fermentable fiber components can definitely help. Zinc and nucleic acids (such as ribonucleic acid) are among the nutrients that help prevent and heal injury. Glutamine, the most abundant amino acid in the body, plays several important roles in the intestine. For example, glutamine regulates protein metabolism and intestinal inflammation among other mechanisms.

Speaking Spanglish, I said to the lady behind the counter at Taqueria San Jose, “I want the steak fajitas, por favor. No crema, no queso, no frijoles, no arroz, no corn. Solamente carne asada, aguacate, salsa, lettuce y cebollas. Gracias.” I wanted beef fajitas with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, bell peppers, salsa, avocado and cilantro, with no sour cream, no cheese, no beans or rice or corn. That was it. She looked at me like I was crazy and said, “No beans? No rice? No sour cream? No cheese?

No tortillas?!” It did not seem relevant for me to add that I am a doctor who helps chronically ill people who have usually been to more than 8 or 10 other health care providers before nearly giving up hope and coming to see me.

Human genetic code and dietary habits have evolved simultaneously over the last 2 million years. Only in the last few thousand years have humans been consuming grains with any regularity. Our reliance on grains has occurred too recently on an evolutionary time-scale
for our genetic code to adapt to such a fundamental change, and thus, our health has suffered.

Archaeological records display a decline in human health as grain use emerged and replaced other foods. A look at societies consuming the diets of ancient pre-agricultural ancestors reveals superior immunity to infections, chronic disease and mental illness compared to modern cultures. The invention of mechanized grain mills and automated sifting devices in the latter part of the 19th century further worsened human health by altering the nutritional characteristics of grain.

Cereal grains contain a number of anti-nutrients that contribute to health problems such as impaired mineral absorption, digestive dysfunction, leaky gut, inflammation, and cancer. There is no debate that grains offer inexpensive caloric value and provide convenience as a non-perishable and storable food. However, the predominance of grain-based foods in modern diets is costing us our health. It is recognized that human dependence on grains has created a world situation in which significant health degradation, economic disparity, class divisions, warfare and environmental insults are some of the negative consequences. Some of the results of our reliance on agriculture are over-population, starvation, and ecological destruction due to mono-crop production. In this sense, our reliance on agricultural products is counter to evolutionary survival. An attempt to understand the impact of grains on human health provides an important and revolutionary perspective. Individual choices for our health, and our families’ well being is linked to all of society’s survival. Our pre-grain ancestors were not afflicted with diseases caused by grains such as osteoporosis, gastrointestinal dysfunction, thyroid disorders, diabetes and heart disease, to name a few. The introduction of stone tools in the archaeological record was considered the initiation of our human ancestors’ consumption of larger quantities of meat and fat. The tools date back to more than 2.5 million years ago. Much of human evolution occurred during a series of ice ages. Around 90-95% of the last 500,000 years have been glacial periods. Therefore, grain, plant matter and fruit would not have been available for most human groups in any significant quantity during our evolution. The enlargement of the human brain and the development of our unique digestive tract were only made possible by relying on high-energy and nutrient dense foods: fat and protein. These foods preferentially formed the bulk of most human diets, and these diets did not change significantly until just a few thousand years ago. Currently, many people mistakenly feel that eating large quantities of meat is not good for them because they are not able to digest and absorb the meat due to a zinc deficiency and so they do not feel good when they eat it. Zinc is found in red meat, oysters, and dark poultry. Phytates, compounds found in whole grain breads, cereals and legumes inhibit zinc absorption, which leads to lower protein absorption. To test the consequences of a shift to animal protein in your diet I would recommend to each of you, The Protein Challenge: Here is how it goes; cut out grains, nuts, seeds, beans, spicy foods, complex carbohydrates, juices and processed sugars for 6 weeks. During those 6 weeks eat animal protein every hour that you’re awake even if you aren’t hungry. Eat meat or fish (even better) and vegetables for each meal. At the end of 6 weeks, you’ll be surprised how you feel.

Every person has cancer cells in the body.  These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion.  When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

Here are some suggestions to help prevent cancer and also interesting facts about cancer….

1. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a  person’s life time.  In general, the more stress you have the more cancer cells you have.  The less stress you have the fewer cancer cells you have.  Everyone is different.

2. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.  Very, very cold temperatures and very, very high temperatures can temporarily kill off cancer cells and/or strengthen one’s immunity.  This has been quite well researched and there is even a breathing / healing technique based upon this science called the Wim Hof breathing method.

3. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has nutritional deficiencies.  These could be due to genetic, but also to environmental, food and lifestyle factors.  It should be noted that if you improve circulation and increase oxygen to the cells throughout the body, you decrease cancer cells. Reducing exposure to toxins and eliminating toxins from the body helps to reduce or even eliminate many cancers.

4. It is wise to do one’s best to overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies most of us have by changing our diet….eating more frequently and eating healthier foods that are freshly prepared.  It is best to have approximately 4 to 5 meals per day for most people.  This helps to stabilize blood sugar.

5.  The correct type of nutritional supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells In the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7.. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.  The link given here will bring you to an article about anger and anger issues.  Radiation causes an increased toxic burden which then leads to a toxic liver and gallbladder which causes such emotions as anger, irrationality, frustration, emotionally repressed, depressed, indecisive, hate, pissed off, aggression, galled and other negative emotions.  It is crucial to understand the link between anger and toxicity.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy.
Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.  Avoiding starchy and sugary foods like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes would be a great idea.

*CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

A. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts.  The best sugar substitute for a short period of time would be inositol powder.  Sucanat is also a viable alternative for some people.  Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. A better alternative is Himalayan Sea Salt or Celtic Sea Salt or Eden Sea Salt or Kosher salt or other non iodized sea salt.

B. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the Gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with water or something that does not have a ton of sugar in it would be a good idea.  Aloe Vera Juice can be great for some people.

C. Cancer cells thrive in an acid or alkaline environment.  This is commonly misunderstood.  In an overly alkaline environment (alkalosis), cancer cells tend to flourish.  Those same cancer cells are often very acidic despite the alkaline environment that surrounds them.  And, the pH can also be the opposite of what is being described here.  The body may be excessively acidic and then the cancer can thrive in that environment and the cancer itself can be overly alkaline.   A meat-based diet is not necessarily acidic.  Once you swallow the meat, the body’s carbonic anhydrase system will buffer the pH of the meat and reach a state of equilibrium.  It is best to eat fish, and also plenty of other meats like chicken, lamb, duck, cornish game hen, ostrich, rabbit, elk, beef, shellfish, etc… Factory farmed meat contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.  Therefore, it is best to eat organic meat or meat that comes from an animal that is allowed to roam free  — free range.

D. A diet made of 50% fresh vegetables and no juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts or sugary fruits help put the body to be pH balanced.  The other 50% of the diet should be animal protein.  Atlantic Fish is best and organic buffalo, elk or beef tends to be the 2nd best.  This has been well researched, especially among the Masai and Samburu tribes in East Africa.  Again, we do not want to have an overly alkaline or acidic body.  Fresh juice can be a recipe for cancer.  Fresh vegetable juices contain lots of phytates which are poisonous.  Fresh juice also is overly alkaline and can disrupt the natural pH balance.  It is best to heat up your juice and make it into a soup and then to add plenty of fiber to it.  Juice, in general, is not such a great idea.  Juice does not contain very much fiber.  We need the fibers found in fruits and sugars as they help us to stabilize blood sugar and metabolize Vitamin U in the intestinal tract.  These fibers are excellent for the health of the colon.    People often mistakenly think that fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed.  This is nonsense.  Enzymes are not living, they are just protein molecules.  Fresh vegetables in their natural state are a great idea as they do contain enzymes that have not been deconformed and adulterated.  Remember not to overcook your meat otherwise you will destroy the enzymes and deconform the protein configurations in the meat.  Cook chicken well in order to avoid parasites.

E. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine .Green tea is a better alternative but should also be avoided as it is like taking speed and depletes the adrenal glands after a short period of time.  I realize that green tea has cancer fighting properties, but there are also some problems with its regular consumption. Water-best to drink spring water to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water and Reverse Osmosis water should not be consumed; they are best to avoid.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior to become a survivor. Anger, lack of forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer

1. No plastic containers in the microwave.  Do not use a microwave at all – ever.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave…..  throw out your microwave or give it away.

to the cells of our bodies. Don’t freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.  Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn’t bad but you don’t know what is in the paper. It’s just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper.  The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.  Remember, Triad Of Health Family Healing Center recommends you THROW OUT YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN, or, don’t use it FOR ANYTHING.

Plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.  Cover food with a paper towel instead.  AND THROW OUT OR DO NOT USE YOUR MICROWAVE.
